Florida Power & Light
FPL awarded Gibraltar Chimney International a 5-yr blanket service contract to provide maintenance repairs for the (30) stacks and chimneys at each of the (11) Generating Stations in their Florida system. The contract was awarded to Gibraltar Chimney after evaluating capabilities, price, safety, and service.
Cascades Tissue Group
Various manufacturing facilities throughout the country also solicit our services for inspection and maintenance, such as the Cascades Tissue Group & Anheuser-Busch, Inc. As is typical with inspection, our findings and recommendations are presented to our clients timely and categorized in a manner to clearly identify repairs relative to the degree of importance.
Steel Stacks and Liners
Cargill Fertilizer, Inc.
As a part of environmental improvement efforts, Cargill Fertilizer contracted Warren Environment Inc. to design and build a 300' tall odor stack at their facility south of Tampa, Florida.
Emergency response to assist plant service contractor to stabilize and remove the Unit #2 stack and avoid plant shut-down due to a stack collapse.
As is the case with many of our clients, time is money, and Gibraltar Chimney develops work plans with project safety and work scope efficiency as a fundamental part of who we are. Each of our projects is slightly unique, however not so dissimilar that our experienced team can meet all of our client's needs.
Covanta - Oahu
Erection of the 277’ x 12’ dual-wall steel stack. Due to site congestion, GCI worked in cooperation with the General Contractor in sharing the Manitowoc 18000.
The removal of 42’ long section of 26’ Ø insulated ductwork spanning from the boilerhouse to the 700’ tall reinforced concrete chimney. Gibraltar used a 600-ton crane to handle the 60,000 lb. duct section
St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center
Emergency Contract for NYS-OGS to complete demolition a 200’ x 23’ Ø Radial Brick Chimney. Over 15,000 CF of debris removed.
maintenance and retrofit
Arizona Public Service
As a part of environmental upgrades at the Arizona Public Service Cholla Plant, APS installed a wet-scrubber system which necessitated retro-fitting the Unit #1 chimney to accommodate the operational changes.
Consolidated Edison Company East River #4
Tear out of existing gunite lining. Sandblasting of all exposed interior steel surfaces. Application of a 2½” thick gunite lining including anchors. Installation of refractory anchors for the full height.
Consolidated Edison Company East River #2
The Facilities Manager at Brunswick General Hospital was faced with a dilemma. A redundant boiler chimney was in an unsafe and potentially hazardous condition.
The installation of new boilers at the Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Hospital meant the 150' tall radial brick chimney was no longer required. With the chimney located immediately adjacent to the boilerhouse, demolition using mechanical methods such as hydraulic breakers or similar techniques was not possible.
Florida Power & Light
A routine inspection of the 350’ x 24’-4” concrete chimney identified severe cracking and partial collapse of the pilasters on both sides of one of the flue opening in the brick liner. The restricted work space and precarious condition of the collapsing brickwork prevented personnel from attempting a piecemeal demolition.
brick chimney repair & restoration
Construction of a 46’ radial brick shell extension. Stainless Steel cap installation.
Exterior pointing and Installation of exterior reinforcing bands
Lightning Protection System installation and exterior cleaning of brickwork.
Repointing of Exterior Mortar Joints and Reinforcing Band Installation.
Installation of a New a Chimney Cover and Remove and Replace Lightning Protection System Air Terminals and Encircling Cable.
Masonry Restoration Project involving State of Virginia Historic Restoration Board. Demolition of the uppermost 7’ and Install a new reinforced concrete cap and Exterior re-pointing.
Nearly 50% of the exterior mortar joints, between the two radial brick boiler chimneys at the University, was in a deteriorated condition. GCI repaired more than 22,000 lineal feet of mortar joints in conjunction with nearly 300 bricks being replaced throughout the structures.
brick liner construction
WPS - Westwood Generation
The inspection identified severe cracking, hazardous conditions and potential lining failure situation. Demolish and removal of (5) sections of the corbel brick liner. Re-construction of the liner with new acid resistant corbel brick liner sections.
National Grid - Northport
Remove and Rebuild Upper 15’ section ASTM 980 Acid Brick Liner
Remove and replace Stainless Steel liner hood. Exterior crack repairs.
Florida Power & Light Company
Working in conjunction with Doe Run Peru and Fluor Daniel, CCI and Gibraltar Chimney performed an inspection of the massive structure.
concrete chimney repair
Hazardous conditions from spalling concrete prompted plant personnel to contract Gibraltar Chimney to repair the structures using a two-phased approach.
Gibraltar Chimney conducted a comprehensive inspection to assess the overall condition and structural capability to support cellular antennas. The resolution comprised of a partial height demolition and nearly 1000 square feet of concrete spall repair to the ±170’ chimney in Maine.
Gibraltar Chimney International offers the following related services: CEMS (continuous emissions monitoring systems), Demolition, Breeching and Ductwork & Cooling Tower Inspection & Maintenance.
